My name is Somit Kumar Dutta, I teach yoga and spirituality. I have 12 years experience of yoga, and also teach Ayurveda, astrology, music, Indian cuisine and language classes. I have two yoga centres overseas, and my society’s name is mentioned in a Japanese & Korean traveling guidebook.
I believe in teaching every student the real way of yoga so that they can understand how to live their life in a positive way. I believe that yoga is very important for every human being because it teaches us how to make the most of our lives.
I also do social work for the children of Varanasi. I started this project because my own childhood was full of difficulties. My parents were very poor, and we often had to go without food - it was a very tough time in my life. When I was 9 years old my school teacher asked me for my monthly fees, my parents tried their best but they could not collect enough money. The next day when the teacher asked again for the money I said I could not pay and needed more time, but the teacher would not give me more time and I was told to leave school. She said the same to six more children. That day I decided that I would open a free school for poor, street and slum children offering them a free education and food, and giving them a brighter future.
When I was 10 years old I went to an Ashram to gain spiritual knowledge. The things that I learnt at the Ashram gave me a new energy for work. After 1 year, when I finished at the Ashram I came back to Varanasi. One day by accident I met a tourist who asked me about yoga classes. I said that I could teach them and from that day my journey began…
